Émile Bruchon was a quintessential Belle Époque French decorative artist most known for his bronze statuettes, lamps and clocks. In his sculptures, he often chose to depict historical or mythological figures, such as the title character of Falubert’s 1862 novel Salammbô. Bruchon’s work is characterized by finely detailed decorative motifs, often embedded in otherwise utilitarian objects. Born in Paris, Bruchon was a student of Mathurin Moreau and he exhibited in Paris Salons during the 1880s.
