Stow Wengenroth was a respected American artist and printmaker particularly known for his black and white landscapes of New England and New York City. Serenity is considered one of his most accomplished lithographs of the New England subjects.  The quiet scene, rendered in meticulous detail, depicts the sun-bathed interior of the First Congregational Church in Litchfield, Connecticut.
