Phillips‘s color woodcuts are renowned for their harmonious compositions and subtle color palettes, often depicting Canadian landscapes. His integration of Japanese woodblock printing techniques and compositional devices brought a delicacy and luminosity to his prints, and each impression varied in colors and inking, often for quite different effects. He was a prolific color woodcut artist, but his best prints are now rare on the market.  Mt. Rundle in British Columbia was a favorite subject in prints and watercolors for Phillips.
