6 ½  x  9 ¼ inches    |   16.51  x  23.5 cm

The woodcut depicts a naval fleet of warships, a favorite subject for Feininger, rendered in an abstracted and geometric style. The ships are portrayed as sharp, angular forms, evoking a sense of power and dominance as they navigate the sea. The jagged, pointed cubist forms of the sea, sky and ships create a sense of movement and energy. This reduction to planes of black and white aligns with Feininger’s broader artistic approach, which sought to simplify forms to their most essential, symbolic elements.
