SHEETS, Millard
Millard Sheets (1907–1989) explored printmaking as a way to translate his painterly vision into bold, graphic form. Working primarily in lithography and serigraphy, he adapted the fluid washes and light-filled compositions of his watercolors into crisp, layered prints. His imagery often centered on California’s landscapes, architecture, and daily life, rendered with a strong structural sense and an economy of line. Though best known as a painter and muralist, Sheets’ prints reveal his skill in distilling complex scenes into accessible, finely crafted editions.
