CASSATT, Mary
Mary Cassatt (1844–1926) was an American artist known for her significant contributions to Impressionism, particularly through her innovative printmaking. Deeply influenced by Japanese woodblock prints and the work of Edgar Degas, Cassatt experimented with color aquatint and drypoint techniques to explore themes of domestic life and the intimate bonds between mothers and children. Her prints, marked by subtle textures and a refined use of line and color, positioned her as a pioneering figure in modern printmaking and one of the few women of her era to gain critical recognition in both Europe and the United States.
